How We Operate
We understand your dog is an important part of your family and you want your family member to have a fun, positive experience while at daycare or training.
Dogs, owners, and staff at Raising Canine are treated with uncompromising kindness, dignity and respect. Our staff are experienced and trained in force-free, positive reinforcement dog handling, as well as Pet First Aid.
Our staff also adhere to Raising Canine’s comprehensive Policy and Process Manual which focuses on high standards in Dog Managing and Handling; Cleaning; Customer Service; and Professional Conduct.
Whether your dog is attending our services for daycare or training we strive to ensure your dog’s emotional and physical well-being are taken care of.
Our training classes are kept small so both dogs and owners receive individual attention for optimal learning capability. We are proud to say we offer force-free, positive reinforcement training. We strongly believe dogs learn best when rewarded for wanted behaviour rather then being corrected for unwanted behaviour.
“At Raising Canine, dogs, owners, and staff are treated with uncompromising kindness, dignity and respect.”
– Owner and accredited dog trainer Velvetanne Madro
Accredited Dog Training That’s Passionate About Dogs
The kind and caring treatment of all Raising Canine dogs is the steadfast philosophy of Velvetanne Madro, owner & trainer. Velvetanne’s love for dogs lead her to her new career as a trainer after 23 years as an Occupational Health Nurse. After taking an accredited dog training program through PetSmart Canada, she worked as one of their trainers, specializing in behavioural issues. She then decided to branch out on her own and start Velvetanne’s Dog Training, offering both classes and private sessions.
From this training business, she recognized many dog owners work full time or are simply too busy to properly exercise or socialize their beloved pet. Velvetanne recognized a need for daycare where dogs receive the emotional and physical outlet they require.
In September 2010, Raising Canine’s doors were opened at the Crowfoot Village Shopping Centre in NW Calgary. Since then, dogs and owners have loved attending our services so much that we now have a reservation list for daycare as we quickly fill up each day. Our staff also say they love coming to work and have stayed with us since we opened. The dogs are like our family and our clients have become our good friends. We feel we have the best job in Calgary.
