About Raising Canine

How We Operate

We understand your dog is an important part of your family and you want your family member to have a fun, positive experience while at dog daycare or dog training.

The dogs, the dogs’ humans, and the staff at Raising Canine are treated with uncompromising kindness, dignity and respect.

Raising Canine’s dog trainers are CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainers-Knowledge Assessed) through the  CCPDT (Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers), who use Positive Reinforcement training techniques rather than physically and psychologically intimidating type methods. We strongly believe dogs learn best when rewarded for wanted behaviour rather then being corrected for unwanted behaviour.

Also, our dog training classes are kept small so both dogs and owners receive individual attention for optimal learning capability.

Our dog daycare staff are experienced and trained in force-free, pain free, and fear-free positive reinforcement dog handling and managing. They also adhere to Raising Canine’s comprehensive Policy and Process Manual which focuses on high standards in Dog Managing and Handling; Cleaning; Customer Service; and Professional Conduct.

Whether your dog is attending our services for dog daycare or dog training we strive to ensure your dog’s emotional and physical well-being are taken care of.

“At Raising Canine, dogs, owners, and staff  are treated with uncompromising kindness, dignity and respect.”

– Owner and Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Velvetanne Madro, CPDT-KA

Certified Professional Dog Training That’s Passionate About the Physical and Mental Health of Dogs

The kind and caring treatment of all Raising Canine dogs is the steadfast philosophy of owner and certified professional dog trainer, Velvetanne Madro, CKPT-KA. After 23 years as an Occupational Health Nurse, Velvetanne took an accredited dog training program through PetSmart Canada, and worked as one of their dog trainers, specializing in behavioural issues. She then decided to branch out on her own and start Velvetanne’s Dog Training, offering both classes and private sessions.

She also became a certified professional dog training (CKPT-KA) through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT). The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers® (CCPDT®), established in 2001, is the leading independent certifying organization for the dog training profession. The CCPDT is the leader in the development of rigorous exams to demonstrate mastery of humane, science-based dog training practices.

From her dog training business, she recognized that so many dog owners were left at home, alone, and/or in crates, for extended periods of time each day, due to several different reasons. Velvetanne recognized a need for a daycare where dogs receive the emotional and physical outlet they require when their humans aren’t able to provide this.

In September 2010, Raising Canine’s doors were opened at the Crowfoot Village Shopping Centre in NW Calgary, servicing the surrounding NW communities offering both Dog Training Classes and Dog Daycare.
